The pair of antennas on the top of the home unit are the antennas that communicate with the cellular network, and if they happen to be on the side of the tree away from the closest cell tower, they have a tough time connecting. But...where is the nearest cell tower? Who knows? That is why we recommend using **two external antennas** with brackets and mounting them on **OPPOSITE SIDES** of the tree to give you the best chance that at least one of them will make a good connection.
